The Big Mission Project
Spring 2008
Where are we in our big mission project?
Rev. Molly Vetter
For the past several years, our church leadership has been calling us to be involved in a big project, in mission with people living in poverty in Mid-City San Diego. We wanted to tell you where we are in this work.
Many people have already been involved in work in Mid-City — on June 15, we celebrated the work of many tutors, working in schools in the community. Most of our school volunteers have been working in literacy tutoring in Cherokee Point and Euclid Elementary Schools, through the countywide "Everyone a Reader" program. This work continues, and we invite even more people to be involved. When the new school year begins this fall, your help would be welcomed; we already have a training event planned for Saturday, September 27, here at the church in the Cove, from 9-noon. For more information or to sign up, contact Brenda Blake (bblake@fumcsd.org).
We also have volunteer tutors at Wilson Middle School, tutoring students in core subjects, and at Crawford High School, in the International Rescue Committee's program. To volunteer at Wilson, contact Kathee Christiansen (kchriste@mail.sdsu.edu); to volunteer at Crawford, contact Rev. Molly (mvetter@fumcsd.org)
This summer, we're also working on two bold, new adventures...
