Message from Pastor Elbert

Rev. Elbert KimHere we are in the month of July! It seems summer has just begun and yet we are halfway through our summer programming. This past Sunday as I was driving along the I-5 and the 56 freeway around 9:00pm, I had the wonderful opportunity to view across the San Diego horizon a total of eleven different fireworks venues. It seemed truly like a day of celebration.

Here at our church, we have been having our own set of celebrations since the beginning of last month. The new summer schedule with having our children in our 9:30 worship services has been a joy. The teaching moments have been insightful for both our children and adults, and the biblical stories of heroes in the Old Testament have been delightful. We are greatful to see our families and children in worship each Sunday.

If you have not been able to experience all of our programs this summer, I encourage you to take part in the worship services, the mission projects at the 11:00 hour on the second and fourth Sundays, and the First Family Breakfast at 8:45am on the first Sundays of the month. Oh, and don't forget to join us for the Mary Poppins sing-along on July 18th at 12:30pm in the Linder Hall.

However, the biggest of all summer celebration is still to come. It is, of course, our Summer Vacation Bible School from July 26-30th. This year's theme is High Seas Expedition! We'll be sailing away with VBS fun, experiencing the deep, rolling waters of God's love. As usual, there will be songs to sing, stories to hear, activities to play, and crafts to be creative with.

I, myself, am really excited for this year's theme. If you haven't registered yet, please do so soon so that we can make sure we have all the supplies we need for the number of children. Each year we exceed our registration expectations, so don't wait! Go to www.fucsd.org/vbs. Hope to see each and every one of you there!

Blessings,
Pastor Elbert Kim

Message from the Director

Beckie HenselmeierIf anyone is my Facebook friend or reads their eNews, you've probably heard the news! Starting in August, I will be heading to Colorado for two weeks to attend ILIFF School of Theology. It is there that I will be working on my Masters in Divinity through a new program that includes distance learning.

What does this mean for you and your family?

First, I would appreciate your prayers as I begin this new chapter in my life. While I will be traveling to school periodically throughout the next three years, my primary role as Director of Children's Ministries will not change. My Bachelors' degree was in Liberal Studies and working with our children and youth has always been a passion.

I am both honored and excited about the work we have accomplished in these past two years but we are not finished yet. The laughter and knowledge your children share with me every Sunday carries me through my week and reminds me of the true work of the Lord in our modern times. Thank you for your support.

See you Sunday,
Beckie Henselmeier
