Richard has been the Director of Student Ministries at First Church since November 2013. He comes originally from Mission Viejo, where he was raised in the UMC. He served as an acolyte for many years before he was too tall for the robes and made the switch too running sound and light during the services. Richard played football and volleyball all four years in high school and was on varsity for three of those years. Richard loves the ocean, let it be either surfing, body boarding, stand-up-paddle-boarding or just swimming.
He received his B.A. in History from Cal State Fullerton and during most of his college career he volunteered in his local youth group. In his final year of college he received the call to ministry after participating in a sermon. That summer he decided to enroll full-time at Fuller Theological Seminary. Richard worked at Home Depot for five years as a manager but his favorite job, besides being a Youth Director, was being a janitor for a few years at a church. Richard also enjoys traveling; he has been to Canada, Mexico, Alaska, New Zealand, and almost every state in America.
In addition to teaching, preaching and a deep love for Jesus Christ, his gifts include visionary leadership, recruiting and training volunteers for the Student Ministries. Richard loves to talk theology and enjoys showing students and adults that Christ is still alive and working in and through us every day. Richard is in his final year of Seminary and should be receiving his Master’s of Divinity in February 2016.
